Every Growbie grows differently.

Daily care, thirty seconds.

💧Water

Keep water in the vase at all times so the wick stays damp. Check every couple of days and top up when low.

☀️Light

A bright windowsill is perfect. Some direct sun through the window is great. The more light, the thicker the hair.

✂️Trim

Cut anytime after day 7. Regular trims keep the hair thick, upright, and ready for the next style.

Haircut day is the best day.

By day 7 the hair is long enough for a first cut. Kid-safe scissors, steady hands, big reveal. Then raid the craft drawer: flower clips, tiny hats, a borrowed bow. One haircut and one accessory later, they're not toys anymore. They're little somebodies.

It grows back, so no cut is a mistake. Snap a photo and tag @MeetGrowbies.

Dark stains on the head after soaking?

Totally normal. The head is filled with vermiculite (a natural mineral) and seed, and both tint damp fabric: wet patches look darker, the mineral can shade them brown, and soaking seeds release a tea-like stain. It fades as the head dries evenly, and the hair grows right over it. Mold is different: fuzzy, patchy, and musty-smelling.

White fuzz near the seeds. Is that mold?

Usually not. Fine white fuzz on sprouting seeds is normally root hairs, and totally harmless. Mold looks patchy blue-green and smells musty. If you see that: move to a brighter, airier spot and water a little less. It usually clears up on its own.

Nothing after 5 days?

Check the wick is damp and the room isn't cold. Give the head a fresh 1-hour soak and put it somewhere warmer and brighter. Sprouts usually follow within 2 days.

The hair looks floppy or yellow.

That's a light problem, not a water problem. Move your Growbie to a brighter spot and give it a trim. Fresh growth comes back greener and stronger.

How long does a Growbie live?

About a month of strong, styleable growth. That's the seed's built-in energy running the show. After that it keeps living but grows more slowly, since there's no soil to refuel it. Regular trims keep it looking its best. When the hair retires for good, the memories (and the photos) stay.
